My name is Margaret MacGillivray - for the last 23 years, I have run a small gift and coffee shop in Helensburgh MacGillivray's. When the shop first opened, we didn't have our coffee shop, but incorporating that was the best move we ever made. And from humble beginnings, we have a steady band of loyal, regular customers, who come back to see us and to test the home-baking.
I have to be honest and say that there are times I could cheerfully throw the food mixer out the window - those tend to be the hot days of summer, when standing over a hot stove isn't really my idea of a fun activity. And I should also tell you that my first attempts at baking (long before I opened the shop) would have sunk a battleship. I'm certainly not the kind of baker who can decorate a cake to within an inch of it's life; but the appearance is secondary to the texture and flavour, in my book at least :-) I worked hard and improved on my horrible first attempts!
I debated about whether or not to start selling my recipes online - after all, some of them are my trade secrets. But I figured that I am proud of my achievements, and am even prouder to put my name to some of my recipes for you all to enjoy. So I would like to share with you my recipe for Cranachan Trifle .....
Cranachan - redolent of relaxed, lazy Scottish summers; raspberries, honey, oatmeal and cream ...... what a delicious combination.
